David A. Hoekema, Professor of Philosophy at Calvin College, received his B.A. from Calvin College and his Ph.D. from Princeton University. Having served on the faculty of St. Olaf College and as Executive Director of the American Philosophical Association at the University of Delaware, he came to Calvin to serve as Academic Dean from 1992-98. His publications include Rights and Wrongs: Coercion, Punishment and the State (Susquehanna University Press, 1986), Campus Rules and Moral Community (Rowman and Littlefield, 1994), and a book in progress on Finding the Hidden Path: Contexts of Conflict and Possibilities for Peace, based in part on sabbatical research in South Africa. He served as director of Calvin's Study in Ghana program in 2004 and 2005 and has been appointed to that role for 2010. Recently he was awarded a Fulbright Scholar award to teach and conduct research at Daystar University in Nairobi, Kenya, in spring 2010.
