Student Network Services: Connecting Your Computer to the World!

Before connecting your personal computer to Calvin's network you should read the Policy on Responsible Use.

Calvin offers two ways for you to connect your personal computer to Calvin's network. Both ResNet and CalvinStudents provide you with access to the internet and Calvin's network, including KnightVision (Calvin's eCommunity), Webmail and your Novell Netstorage account.

ResNet is the wired residential computing network provided in the on campus residence halls and apartments. Students with a personal computer can connect a computer to the college network and internet using ResNet. (See requirements)

CalvinStudents provides students wireless access to the internet and Calvin's network. Any student with a laptop computer and specific wireless capabilities can connect to our growing wireless network. There are several locations across campus where wireless access is available, including Johnny's, the DeVos Center and the Hekman Library. (See requirements)

When connected to Calvin's network you are able to:

  • Browse the Internet
  • Access lecture notes and handouts (currently over 70% of Calvin professors utilize online content and tools)
  • Submit course work
  • Conduct online research
  • Send and receive email
  • Chat with family and friends
