Some of My Woodworking
Projects
Although by profession I am a
teacher and philosopher, I find great satisfaction in working with wood, whether
that is building furniture, doing repairs, or constructing a larger structure.
Working with our hands is an important feature of life that often gets neglected
or downplayed in a society that emphasizes comfort, ease, standardization and
commercialization. And the satisfaction of producing a concrete product is a good
counterpoint to a profession in which the results of one's work can often not
be seen until years later. Yet the two have much in common, including planning,
problem-solving, improvisation, and making do with the materials, tools and skills
at hand.
Here are some of the projects I have completed over the years.
